People searching for the Cyprus home energy upgrade scheme are usually looking at an existing house, not a new build. The 2026 call is «Εξοικονομώ – Αναβαθμίζω στις Κατοικίες», announced on 15 May 2026 by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. It is the third call, budget €20 million, under the THALIA 2021–2027 programme.
The ministry states that it is for natural persons upgrading an existing home that is not used for a business. The home needs a household electricity account in a natural person's name, and its first grid connection must be before 1 January 2008 (or the permit application filed before 21 December 2007). A new Cyprus PrefabHomes house does not meet that test, so this grant is not a discount on a new build.
To be paid, the works must cut primary energy by at least 60%, measured from an energy performance certificate issued after 15 May 2026 to a second certificate after the works. Covered investments listed in the announcement include insulation, windows, shading, solar water heating, efficient air conditioning, heat pumps, net-billing photovoltaics, batteries and a registered energy expert. The funding portal lists maximum grants of up to €32,000 (type A) and €24,000 (type B), depending on the investment type.
